Kidnapping InvestigationHOPKINS COUNTY, Ky. (7/15/19) — A father and son duo are in Hopkins County Jail following a kidnapping investigation that occurred in White Plains, where authorities say explosives were found.

The one-lane road leading to the suspects’ home was blocked off and several authorities were on the scene during a search of the property Saturday.

The alleged kidnappers had freed two individuals said to have visible injuries. Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office reported responding to a missing person complaint in White Plains Friday. The two were reported missing from North Scott Street in White Plains 7 p.m. Thursday after they had gone riding on a UTV and had not returned home.

The unnamed victims were reported to be a 20-year-old male and 29-year-old female of White Plains.

While deputies were interviewing family members, the missing people returned to North Scott Street, according to the report. HCSO determined they had been abducted the previous day at gunpoint after they were forced off the road by a van.

“They were then assaulted, placed in the van and taken by force to 325 Oglesby Cemetery Road,” Sheriff Matt Sanderson wrote.

The suspects were identified as White Plains residents Danny Massey, 48, and Dustin Massey, 22. They were each listed as being held on $20,000 cash bond today.

“The victims were bound, chained and placed into a hand-dug pit on the property where they were shown homemade explosive devices and threatened for hours and then later released,” Sanderson stated.

Further investigation revealed Dustin Massey was a suspect in a previous reported crime by one of the kidnapping victims, HCSO reported. Deputies obtained a search warrant on the Oglesby Cemetery Road property, where the father and son were arrested Saturday without incident.

Homemade, intact explosive devices and other bomb manufacturing materials were seized from the property as evidence, deputies said.

The sheriff said, due to nature of explosive devices found, HCSO called the ATF and Kentucky State Police for assistance. HCSO, KSP Special Operations, ATF and the FBI served the search warrant at 325 Oglesby Cemetery Road on Saturday.

Sanderson said additional charges are pending in relation to the investigation.

The father and son were each charged with adult kidnapping and tampering with a witness.

Deputies are also seeking information from the public. They believe witnesses drove by as the initial abduction was taking place along Farmers Crossing Road during the late afternoon hours on Thursday.

Anyone who saw four individuals outside of a van and side-by-side UTV is asked to call Deputy Joseph Stratton at (270) 825-5661.
